Enter the ASID Educator Design Excellence Competition


ASID is proud to announce an annual, peer reviewed and juried national design competition to recognize interior design excellence in both residential and commercial design projects completed by ASID Educator members. ASID recognizes the significant contribution of educators in interior design and this competition will recognize interior design work at a national level including those individuals in the tenure and promotion process who need venues to have their work reviewed. Commercial and Residential projects will be awarded each year and will be recognized through ASID ICON magazine and other media outlets.

ELIGIBILITY: Only ASID Allied Educator and ASID Professional Educator members may enter.

DESIGN CATEGORIES: Commercial Design or Residential Design
Eligibility Requirements: Must have at least a 50% teaching appointment in the U.S. when the work on projects for submitted competition entries is completed.

Winners


‘Born Again Zen’  by Diane Alexander, ASID and Rex Spencer, ASID. Both are educators in interior design at the Art Institute of Houston in Texas.

The common thread of peacefulness and sustainability was brilliantly weaved throughout this gorgeous design. The skillful use of reclaimed stone, regionally-sourced furniture, and energy-efficient lighting, as well as engagement of local artisans, demonstrates that green design is beautiful design.  – Lori Tugman, Allied ASID

Honorable Mention

‘Classic Herman Miller’ by Eric Wiedegreen, Allied ASID. Eric is a professor of interior design at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida.

This exhibit design pays homage to the era in which the Herman Miller pieces were first introduced.  The use of fashion models and retro TV sets adds a touch of humor and playfulness.  In an age fascinated with Mad Men, this exhibit hits the mark perfectly! –Brooke Traeger, ASID

‘Meet Knox’ by Diane Alexander, ASID. Diane is an educator in interior design at the Art Institute of Houston in Texas.

The space is full of whimsy and playfulness, while fostering an environment for productive learning and play.  The use of subtle color, organization, and the integration of multiple functions within the space are superbly executed. – Brooke Traeger, ASID

‘Mountain Villa’ by Tamie Glass, Allied ASID. Tamie is an assistant professor of interior design at The University of Texas.


Thoughtful transformative design that captured, then elevated, the best of a 1980s Taniguchi house. Paying homage to the magnificent bones of the original structure, this sumptuous renovation integrates 21st century luxury with Bauhaus nostalgia.   - Lori Tugman, Allied ASID
